In comparing this reflection to the reflection I completed in the first class, I find many similarities. I know that I have gained knowledge in each area, but still feel my weakest areas are in the same competencies.
My strengths seem to fall in the areas involving building relationships, developing visions, human resources, leading, and creating a sense of unity. Although I feel at least competent in all of the domain areas, I need to continue to focus my learning on finances and facilities in the areas of legal policies.
In reviewing Domain I competencies, I find that developing a shared vision and motivating the school community to stay focused on this vision is a strength. I work best with diversified communities and have a strong sense of collaboration and the ability to mobilize resources to focus on student success. I am confident that I will be able to work well as a team with the school board, but will continue to work on building relationships with the influential political arena.
Regarding Domain II, Instructional Leadership, I have a solid understanding of curriculum, goal alignment, and strategic planning. I am confident in my ability to utilize student data and demographic data in completing needs assessments and goals. In addition, working with data I am able to develop systems of growth opportunities for all staff that offers continuous improvement focused on the goal of increased student learning. I also have a strong understanding of the development of a purposeful staff evaluation process.
Domain III is where I find my weaknesses. While I have a functional understanding of everything in this domain, I will focus my learning in the areas of financial management, facilities management, and federal and state requirements.
You stated it perfectly when you refrenced building relationships with the influential political arena! Like you, I believe many of us have strong collaborative skills, but educators typically do not use that for political purposes. That is an area I, too, can develop. You will be a great superintendent some day!
ReplyDeleteI am with you, Sheri. Domain III is my weakness. I, too, still need help understanding finance. How do you plan to close that gap? I am thinking that I need additional training. Do you have any ideas? Shelley
ReplyDeleteI have seen a pattern in that a number of us feel that Domain III is our weakness. I am convinced it is because it is the one area that we all have little to no actual working experience. I agree with Shelley, how do we close the gap? How do we get experience in this area while on a campus?
